General Surgery Department

Kocaeli University School of Medicine General Surgery Department is located in the Umuttepe Campus, which was completed in 2005 and is trying to provide health services to the people of Kocaeli province, the surrounding provinces and Marmara region based on scientific and academic issues. The general surgery service is available on the 4th floor of the existing hospital consisting of 20 rooms with 2 beds and 4 private rooms with single bed with a total 44-bed capacity.

Kocaeli University School of Medicine General Surgery Department has 9 faculty members, 5 professors, one is also the dean of the faculty, the other one is also the manager head doctor of the faculty hospital, 1 associate professor and 3 assistant professors. All of them are dealing with various specialties of surgeries and also all of them have duties at medical faculty as giving lectures.

Kocaeli University School of Medicine General Surgery Department has one outpatient clinic every day between 08:30 – 16:30. Also on every Thursday morning, there is bariatric surgery outpatient clinic working for the obese patients. After 16.00 every day the faculty members of the clinic make outpatient clinic according to their specialties. Department has a surgical endoscopy unit where surgical gastroscopies, surgical colonoscopies and ERCP’s are performed.

Kocaeli University School of Medicine General Surgery Department has two separate surgical theaters working every day of the week making open and laparoscopic surgeries. Using the modern technology is the main aim of the surgical team of the clinic. Breast and endocrine surgery, colorectal surgery, upper gastrointestinal tract surgery, hapaticopancreatoduodenal surgery, hernia surgery, bariatric surgery and emergency procedures are the main work areas. Also, bariatric surgery team performs intragastric balloon implantation procedure for non-surgical obese patients. Our department has a separate breast surgical unit including all disciplines performs every kind of breast surgery and certified Breast Center Network.
